As a parent, learning that your child has cancer or a blood disorder can be one of life's most frightening moments. Your top priority is finding the best care for your child, and ours is delivering it.

That's a big promise, and we mean it. As a designated Children's Oncology Group cancer center and one of the larger programs in the Southwest, we are held to higher standard of care and outcomes.

Our nationally recognized Hematology and Oncology program offers leading edge treatment of blood disorders and cancers. In addition to the collaborative hematology and oncology programs, patients at Cook Children's have access to the full support of a wide array of our pediatric specialties through our collaborative efforts with other programs including neurosciences, genetics, orthopedics, endocrinology, cardiology and other specialties that might be required to support your child's specific issue.

From newborns to adolescents, and even some young adults, we are focused on helping your child have every chance possible for a healthier life.

We provide both inpatient and outpatient care. Our newly expanded Cancer Center includes:

An expanded infusion area.
Procedure and recovery rooms in the on-site outpatient clinic.
Dedicated laboratory and full-time pharmacy.
Access to Hematology and Oncology inpatient beds through a direct connection to the north tower.
Space for expanded research and participation in more clinical trials.
Private family spaces for needed breaks.
Meditative garden and family suite for palliative care patients.
Dedicated office and space to promote collaborative care and comprehensive care.
A telemedicine room for consultations.
An MIBG Therapy suite for neuroblastoma patients.

We also offer off-site outpatient care in Abilene, Denton, Fort Worth, Grapevine, Midland, San Angelo, and Waco. When needed, we also offer in-home infusion services and devices through our Home Health services.

Research

Our recognized clinical research programs are major component of our commitment to find new medicines and treatments that are more effective in treating children and teens. With a focus on hematology, oncology and neuroblastoma, we also have additional research programs that occasionally crossover because blood disorders and cancers can affect other areas of the body. Our research program also includes investigational drug services and active clinical trials.

And they deliver the latest in diagnostics and treatments utilizing the most advanced technologies available, like our I-131 MIBG and iMRI suites. We are also well-known among patients and colleagues for our collaborative efforts with one another, related departments, and national and international programs and registries that contribute to positive outcomes for our patients and their families.

Family-centered care

As parents ourselves, the expert hematology and oncology team at Cook Children's understands your fears and works to ease them by making you a part of the team. From the very beginning, we will include you in the care of your child so that you can make the most informed decisions and choices that are right for your child and your family.

A major illness or long-term condition can impact the entire family physically, emotionally, and financially. So, in addition to our doctors and nurses, our family services programs offer support for the patient and the entire family. From Child Life specialists and social services to activities and sibling support programs and more, these programs are designed to help ease the way along your journey.
