Outpatient Care
Infusion suite
Whether you are coming from across town or across North Texas, our infusion suite is designed to make the visit a comforting an environment for both patients and family members. Our dedicated, on-site infusion suite includes infusion chairs large enough to accommodate a patient and parent. A play area helps kids relax and feel more comfortable before and after an infusion and allows parents an opportunity to interact and be a part of the care process. There's also a library with books, magazines, and DVDs, and an art therapy room for the whole family. The infusion center supports infants, children, teens, and young adults who need one-time or ongoing infusion therapy for cancer as well as blood, endocrine, gastrointestinal, or genetic disorders. We also have private infusion rooms and procedure rooms for outpatient treatments.
Procedure and recovery rooms
Many of the procedures our patients need do not require a hospital stay. The procedure and recovery rooms are special facilities for outpatient procedures to be performed in clinic. Some of the more common procedures we perform on an outpatient basis include bone marrow and lumbar puncture procedures with conscious sedation, nitrous oxide or minimal sedation (creating alternatives to general anesthesia in the outpatient surgery suite). These outpatient options provide more choices for families to work with their physician in deciding which types of care are best for each child.
Laboratory
An on-site medical laboratory dedicated specifically to our HO patients means immediate test results. For our young and sometimes fragile patients, such as those who are immune compromised or who have high-risk and/or life-threatening issues, these results can be truly be life-saving.
Pharmacy
Unlike adults, children have very unique requirements when it comes to medicine, and precision is key. So is the ability to quickly administer prescriptions. Our on-site HO pharmacy assures that each child's medicine is designed especially for them and that – in nearly all cases – their prescriptions can be filled immediately. The pharmacy also means convenience since most prescriptions can be filled during the patient's visit. That means that those patients who need their medications that same day don't have to worry about getting to their local pharmacy before closing time and patients traveling long distances or who are tired after a day at the center don't have to make that extra trip to the pharmacy.
