Infectious Diseases
Knowing that every child's life is sacred, it is the promise of Cook Children's to improve the health of every child in our region through the prevention and treatment of illness, disease and injury. The Cook Children's Infectious Diseases Department is comprised of practitioners dedicated to the care of patients with diseases caused by bacteria, parasites, fungi, or viruses. This group includes physicians, nurses, a research nurse, and a clinical research coordinator. We actively participate in clinical trials sponsored by pharmaceutical companies and collaborative organizations. Several of these companies and organizations include:

The Infectious Diseases department at Cook Children's Medical Center is interested in a range of topics relating to the care provided to our patients. Some of the group's research interests include:
- Therapeutic interventions for Chronic Hepatitis B Virus Infection
- Therapeutic interventions for Chronic Hepatitis C Virus Infection
- Acute Bacterial Skin and Skin Structure Infections
- Epidemiology, clinical presentation, and outcomes of pediatric patients with COVID-19
- Natural history, risk factors, and pathogenetic mechanisms of various diseases caused by bacteria, parasites, fungi, or viruses.
