Pulmonology
Knowing every child's life is sacred, we promise to improve the well-being of every child in our care and our communities. Cook Children's Pulmonary department and the Fort Worth Cystic Fibrosis Center collaborate to fulfill this promise. The Cook Children's Pulmonary Department is comprised of practitioners dedicated to the care of patients with respiratory diseases including Cystic Fibrosis (CF). This group includes pulmonologists, CF coordinators, nurses, respiratory therapists, dieticians, social workers, child life specialists and a research nurse. The Fort Worth Cystic Fibrosis Center has a proud history of providing care to patients with CF for more than forty-five years. The Center serves approximately 270 pediatric and adult CF patients over a large geographic area that includes north, central and west Texas. In 2009 our center was granted a CF Foundation Therapeutic Development Network (CFFTDN) Site Award, becoming a Therapeutic Development Center (TDC) for this national network of CF centers. As a TDC, our center is a member of a network of CF centers dedicated to the efficient conduct of clinical research investigating new treatments for patients with CF. We actively participate in clinical trials sponsored by pharmaceutical companies and collaborative organizations. Several of these companies and organizations include:
- Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
- Corbus Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
- Gilead Science, Inc
- MedImmune, LLC
- Savara Pharmaceuticals
- Therapeutic Development Network
- Vertex Pharmaceuticals
The Pulmonary department at Cook Children's Medical Center is interested in a range of topics relating to the care provided to our patients. Some of the group's research interests include:
- Therapeutic interventions for Cystic Fibrosis
- Pulse oximetry overuse
- Long-term surveillance of patients with Cystic Fibrosis
