Respiratory Therapy New Graduate Program
At Cook Children's Medical Center, we are committed to nurturing the next generation of respiratory therapists. Our 15-week Respiratory Therapy New Graduate Program is designed to bridge the transition from student to practicing clinician, providing new graduates with the knowledge, skills and confidence to excel in pediatric respiratory care.
This comprehensive program offers new graduates a structured pathway to develop into skilled, compassionate respiratory therapists, prepared to make a lasting impact on children's lives through advanced, high-quality care.
Program structure
Classroom learning: Engage in structured, interactive classroom sessions led by experienced respiratory care educators. Topics include advanced pediatric care, critical care techniques, and patient-centered practices tailored to the unique needs of children.
Precepted clinical experience: Work alongside dedicated preceptors in real clinical settings. Gain hands-on experience in various units, including the PICU, NICU, CICU, TCU, ED and general pediatric care, while receiving personalized guidance and feedback.
Program specifics
Cohorts
- Applications for the Respiratory New Graduate Program are open annually in February.
- The start date for each cohort is in July and acceptance into the program is dependent on graduation, successful completion of the RRT exam through the NBRC and receipt of the Texas Respiratory Care Practitioner License.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited RCP program within the past year.
- A current and unrestricted State of Texas Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association.
Additional certifications may be required based on respiratory unit requirements. Respiratory residents will complete PALS as part of the residency program, provided through the program
