PICU In-Situ Mock Code events
All team members at Cook Children's make every effort to provide top notch care for all of our patients. When an emergency arises, we want our team members to be prepared. Cook Children's Simulation Program supports specific areas of the hospital with simulation that occurs in the space they are accustomed to working. Taking the appropriate equipment and pediatric simulator to the department creates an environment that can make all the difference in being prepared.
TCU/RCU Parent Sims
Some of our patients are sent home with specialty equipment. For those families, our goal is to send them home feeling empowered with knowledge and the necessary skills to care for their child. This can mean spending time in our simulation lab through the TCU/RCU Bootcamp program. The program is taught using AHA infant/child and tracheostomy videos in combination with hands on practice using mannequins. Education and training for parents/caregivers includes:
- CPR
- Tracheostomy CPR
- Various emergency scenarios
- Proper use and care of home equipment
Conferences
Cook Children's Simulation Program has hosted various conferences and events including the Simulation Professionals of Texas (SPOT) allowing members of the Texas Simulation community to see how we utilize simulation in our hospital setting.

Community programs
Saturday Morning Medicine
The Simulation Program participates in a variety of community programs, including the Saturday Morning Medicine program. Medical professionals work with students at the high school level who have an interest in the health care field.
Juniors and Seniors from participating Fort Worth ISD schools get to visit different parts of Cook Children's Medical Center including the simulation lab, hear various speakers (doctors, nurses, therapists) and also get some one-on-one time in the simulation lab. You can learn more about the program here. Also, if you're a health care professional, discover ways you can be a part of the Saturday Morning Medicine program.
We're here to help.
