We know that trauma comes in all shapes and sizes. It can leave a mark on you that is visible to others or it can leave an invisible mark that is only noticeable by you. Trauma experiences can affect your relationships, decisions, plans, even your lifelong health.  At Cook Children's, we can see the visible and the invisible effects of trauma in the lives of our patients and their families. We have the opportunity to pull out the invisible effects by addressing the emotional safety and mental health of our patients and their families from the trauma they have experienced.

The Trauma Support Program at Cook Children's offers support groups and a weekend family camp in the Spring to begin engaging with patients, caregivers and siblings to focus on healing their invisible scars of trauma. Child life specialists and social workers currently lead the support groups. Our annual trauma camp, Camp RISE, also includes these same disciplines as well as staff from trauma services and nursing.

Because we know that trauma impacts every one differently, we have included multiple trauma resources for you and your family that you may find helpful. If you have any additional questions or would like information regarding our monthly support group or Camp RISE, our weekend camp, please email TraumaSupport@cookchildrens.org or call 682-885-7255.
