Choosing Our Center
Pain is a feeling that hurts and we recognize that every child experiences pain differently. It can have many characteristics: steady, aching, throbbing, stabbing, burning or pinching feelings. Pain can last a short time or the pain may never seem to go away. An illness, a treatment, a disease, a surgery, or an injury can result in pain. Despite the differing aspects of pain, there is a universal wish to feel better and we can help.
Cook Children's is leading the way amongst children's hospitals by providing an innovative and comprehensive pediatric pain management program. Our multi-disciplinary team are experts in the evaluation and treatment of acute and chronic pain in infants, children and adolescents. Our team's cooperative efforts span across many specialties as we work closely with our patients and families. We know the importance of collaboration results in the best possible pain plan of care especially with our families. We know that family is at the center your child's whole world. Parents and family members are the source of a child's strength, courage and comfort. This is especially true when a child is injured, ill or physically or mentally challenged. At Cook Children's, our family centered care approach means that families become partners with us in their child's care. Family centered care here at Cook Children's includes four core concepts: respect and dignity, information sharing, participation and collaboration. These core concepts lay the groundwork for partnership with our Cook Children's Pain Management Team. We are dedicated to working with you to address your child's pain and fear.
