Key Quality Measures – Hand Hygiene
Why is hand hygiene important?
Washing our hands is easy and it’s one of the best ways to keep germs from spreading. At Cook Children’s, we commit to handwashing before and after every patient encounter. We wash our hands using soap and water or alcohol gel.
What does hand hygiene compliance measure?
Hand hygiene compliance shows the percent of time that the healthcare worker washed their hands during unannounced direct observation. Please note that in some situations, the healthcare worker might wash their hands immediately after entering the room, but the direct observer did not see it.
What can you do as a parent or caregiver?
Always ask all members of your child’s care team if they washed their hands before they came in to see your child.
